Teachers workshop:
One day Interactive Teachers Training Workshop was organized at WWF-I , Delhi in December 2007 to begin the process with the objective to enable teachers to educate their students on the issue of Climate Change and its impacts in India. Teachers were provided with an exhaustive Resource Material titled, ‘Teachers Manual’ on Climate Change. The manual provides a detailed understanding on the history, science and impacts of climate change. 20 schools were selected based on their high resource consumption levels at the school, student and parent level. Schools were also selected covering north, south, east and west region, extending the project to NCR region as well. The workshop dealt with following areas of concern:
• Science behind Climate Change
• Recent scientific Researches in the field of Climate Change
• Response to Climate Change (Policy, Adaptation, and Mitigation)
• What can we do and how?
The schools were also promoted to make ‘environment issues’ as major component of any school activity, like organizing wealth out of waste, paper bag competition etc.
Few Schools like Blue Bells International School and Springdale School Dhaula Kuan had undertaken their final Environment Project on Climate Change (for 8th Std. students) after the session. The project was presented by following means-
•Hard Copy Project
•Oral presentation
•A skit on Climate Change
•Awareness resource on climate change ( Bookmark, poster)
The project components and evaluation was done by WWF’s Environment Education Representative Bhatnagar International School held their Annual Function in March and two of the issues addressed were Climate Change and Deforestation. Moreover the school organized a compulsory in-house competition for primary, middle and Secondary school on paper bags and Wealth out of waste. Mount Carmel are initiating the installation of a Rain water Harvesting plant at their school. Delhi has achieved a target of sensitizing 11,486 students through its YCS programme.
