    As part of the YCS initiative, a teacher’s orientation workshop on climate change and energy was organized in Hyderabad on 17th November, 2007 at Alphonsas Auditorium, St. Paul’s High School. Teachers from 12 premier schools of Hyderabad participated in this workshop. The session discussed the earth’s climate system, factors influencing climate, greenhouse effect, glaciological history of the earth’s climate and past climate changes, greenhouse gases, global warming , sinks and sources, sectors leading to GHG.

    Emissions and trends in rise in emissions, climate projections. The session included direct evidences of climate change and its consequences, impacts on hydrology and water resources, cryosphere, biodiversity, agriculture, coastal systems, industry and society, human health, MDGs and development and exemplified this with the potential impacts on India. This was further elaborated with the aid of case studies depicting the impacts of climate change upon Sunderbans, its biodiversity and economy followed by a few activities and teachers presented their interpretation with entertaining activities.
