One day teacher training workshops have been organized in each of the ten selected YCS project cities, in order to educate teachers on science, impacts, mitigation and adaptation and policies of climate change globally, with a special focus on India. These workshops included 1-2 teachers from each of the twenty schools in each city, and have also served to orient teachers on the objectives and expectations of YCS project, its timeframe and activities that teachers could undertake as part of it.
The workshops were devised to impart intensive training on climate change in the form of pictorial presentations in the first half of the day. Post lunch the workshops sought to evoke inputs and feedback from the teachers on what had been discussed thus far. Teachers were divided into groups to reflect and present back to the whole group, the aspects of climate change and activities described in the orientation by treating the group as a classroom. This form of exchange provided teachers with a practical example of how they could disseminate what they had learnt in the teachers training workshop back to their wards.
