Student Workshops
Educating Students
11/14/2008
After the completion of the teacher training workshops, half day student workshops were undertaken in each of the twenty schools in each city by WWF education officers. These workshops were a condensed and simplified version of the training imparted to the teachers on climate change. The session focused on educating the children on the human induced causes of climate change, present and potential impacts, sensitivity of ecosystems and ended by sensitizing them on mitigation options and in particular, their role in mitigation. The presentation sought to sensitize children on the gravity of climate change, and how they could contribute to averting the crisis by taking up activities such as planting and protecting trees, reducing power consumption, switching to alternative and renewable power, practicing energy efficient measures etc. Students were urged to practice these measures in their schools and homes, and to report back to success of these measures when WWF officers returned for a second round of sessions.
