Carmel high school has been associated with WWF for about ten years now and this organization has been carrying out in valuable work and activities with the girls of our school.
In the recent past, Climate change programmes and activities have been taken up with much gusto and the girls have been involved in several projects and awareness programmes carried out with the WWF. On 16th January 2008 Dr. Saswati Sen, the Director of WWF (Eastern Zone) had come to our school and given an erudite, interesting and an enlighting speech on the concept of Cliamte change, Its impact on man and his environment, and also man’s role in it for combating its dangerous effects. This speech was attended by about 500 girls of class XI and XII. Dr. Sen engaged up the audience the urgent need on the part of human to change his habits and attitudes. The tremendous danger to all flora, fauna and the extinction of major plants and animal life was brought to the attention of students. This speech was followed by a film show by Dr. Sen and the concept of Climate Change and its impact became all the more clear. A number of books and literature was also donated by Dr. Sen to the school.
The speech, film show and the literature has been of immense importance and played a major role in disseminating knowledge about Climate Change to the future generations of our society. It also forms a part of the Environmental Science studies that form a part of the curriculum in class XI and XII.
We thank Dr.Sen and WWF for bringing this programme to our school and for making this event such as enjoyable and successful one.
